“The Story Time Pendant” Spotted Fawn Pendant | Kingman Turquoise, Palomino & Pink Conch | Montana Collection

I call pieces like this my Storytime Pendants, jewelry created to tell a story before a single word is ever spoken.

At the heart of this one-of-a-kind pendant is a beautiful Porcelain Spotted Fawn handmade by artist Laura Mears, nestled beneath a handcrafted sterling silver mountain scene. Behind the little fawn, a mother and father deer stand among the mountains and pines, quietly watching over their baby below.

To me, this piece tells a story of family, protection and always having someone watching over you.

I built the landscape by hand in sterling silver, layering the mountains, pine trees, deer, moon and foreground to give the pendant depth and dimension. Below the fawn, sculptural sterling silver leaves and details frame a collection of stones that bring soft color into the scene: Kingman Turquoise, Palomino and Pink Conch.

The contrast between the earthy fawn, darkened silver landscape, soft pink conch and bright turquoise makes this piece feel almost like a miniature piece of Western art, only one you can wear.

A large 15mm leaf-shaped bail finishes the pendant and allows it to be worn on a substantial chain, beads, pearls or neck wire. Because of its size and weight, this is very much a statement piece.

This is more than a pendant. It is a tiny scene captured in sterling silver, a reminder of family, home, and those who are always there watching over us.
